Second minister resigns from new Brazil's government

For the second time in just over two weeks, a Brazilian cabinet minister has resigned.

Both cases involve recorded phone conversations about a corruption investigation.

It’s been a rough start for the interim President Michel Temer who’s now lost two ministers involved in scandals.

CCTV’s Paulo Cabral has the details.

Cabinet minister Fabiano Silveira’s job in the government was to make sure corruption cases would be detected, investigated, and punished.

But on Monday, he had to resign his position of Transparency Minister after leaked audio recordings revealed him advising the president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros, on how to deflect the Lava Jato corruption probe.

Last week, planning minister Romero Juca, Temer’s closest allies, also had to quit after recordings emerged suggesting the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff was part of a plan to stop the Lava Jato corruption probe.

All this is making it much harder for Temer’s government to achieve its much sought popularity and legitimacy.

Almost three weeks into the new government, interim President Michel Temer is still struggling to get past a series of political crises which have so far derailed anything his government may have to offer.
