China winds down two-week tour of America’s national parks system

Representatives of nine protected areas in China are winding up a two-week study tour of U.S. national parks.

They’re learning what makes a successful park, as China develops a national parks system of its own.

CCTV America’s Hendrik Sybrandy looks at some of the issues China will be considering as it puts that system into place.

Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado never ceases to amaze. The third-most visited national park in the U.S. in 2015 is entering its busiest time of the year.

National parks are a big part of America, in many ways. There are 59 of them, more than 400 sites in all, covering 34 million hectares.

Now China’s goal is to create a national parks system of its own.

Parks expert Destry Jarvis is working with the Paulson Institute in the U.S. to help link places like China’s Wuyi Shan protected area into a web of national parks, managed by one agency like the America’s National Park Service, with one set of standards.
