Argentine zoo to undergo transformationThe Buenos Aires zoo is about to undergo a major transformation. CCTV America's Joel Richards reports from Buenos Aires.
Buenos Aires is aiming to modernize its public spaces. The improvements come as other zoos in the country, and also around the world, have been criticized for the condition of the animals.
The Buenos Aires Zoo was built in 1885, on the outskirts of a city which has since grown, leaving the animal enclosures in one of the busiest neighborhoods. But changes are coming.
Three NGOs are evaluating how to relocate some of the animals. Some species native to the country will be released nearby. Some others will have to learn to fend for themselves once again, which will take up to a month.
The Buenos Aires Zoo will remain open for the coming months, in order to raise the funds to pay for the full transformation into a more modern public space.
