Young scientists work hard at the Chinese first tornado center

World Today

A small group of young Chinese scientists is trying to develop early warning systems to detect sudden, destructive storms.

China’s first and only tornado research center is based in the small coastal city of Foshan.

CCTV’s Ge Yunfei reports.

On June, tornado in the east of China killed 99 people and injured more than 800.

Last year, three people were killed and more than 80 injured by another tornado in the southern city of Foshan.

Over 20 tornadoes have been recorded in Foshan over the past decade.

The Foshan Tornado Research Center is a very young institution. It was founded three years ago and is the first and still the only one of its kind in China.

It’s established a network of 204 automatic monitoring stations.
