Leaders call for cooperation at EU-China Business Summit

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker have called for opening up their markets to businesses, as they attended the EU-China Business Summit in Beijing.

CCTV’s Su Yuting reports from Beijing.

Creating a stable environment for bilateral trade is a goal shared by both China and the EU. Premier Li Keqiang delivered a keynote speech at the summit, emphasizing that China values peace and stability above all.

He also said China’s will to solve the problem of steel overcapacity is resolute and the measures are effective.

The EU has become China’s biggest trading partner, and China is the EU’s second largest trading partner after the United States.

The European side has urged Beijing to speed up reform and give European companies the same kind of market access that Chinese companies enjoy in Europe.

Li, on the other hand, urged the EU to eliminate protectionism, pointing out the importance of opening up on both sides to increase bilateral investments.

Exhortations aside, both China and the EU advocate free trade and mutual benefit. China’s investment in the EU is increasing. And the world’s two important economies are working together to promote economic structural reform.
