Moment of silence held in France for victims in Bastille Day attack

In France, a memorial ceremony has been held on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice for the 84 people killed there. Authorities say Mohammed Bouhlel drove a rented truck into the crowd while celebrating Bastille Day.

CCTV’s Elena Casas reports police are struggling to determine a motive.

The Promenade des Anglais fell silent for a minute Monday morning, as thousands gathered to remember the 84 people who died. On the third day of national mourning, the city is still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

The promenade should usually be thronged with tourists enjoying the July sunshine – but on Monday it was filled with mourners.

18 people, among them children, are still believed to be hovering between life and death. Some of the victims have yet to be identified. The dead included tourists from Germany, Switzerland, Ukraine and Russia.

Police are still seeking to understand what motivated the killer – and they have yet to establish any connection to a terrorist group.

In Nice, there was anger as well as grief. French prime minister Manuel Valls was booed, as his government comes under growing criticism for its apparent inability to keep France safe.
