Comic book legend Stan Lee treated like royalty at Comic-Con

After four days of festivities, the 47th International Comic Con officially wraps-up in San Diego.  And one iconic figure that continues to make his presence felt at the event is comic creator Stan Lee.

CCTV’s Mark Niu reports.

Comic-Con is a celebration of pop culture like no other. Business here also reaches heroic proportions, as rabid fans line up seemingly everywhere, buying comics, pins, toys and just about anything for the memories.

The value of classic comics can also be staggering. For example, the first issue of Captain America has a pre-Auction estimate of $20,000. The first appearance of Spiderman is worth $125,000. It’s no wonder the creator of these comics, Stan Lee, shows up here. He’s the hero.

The 93-year-old icon still keeps incredibly busy.

Panels, autograph sessions and here — launching a new digital graphic novel called God Woke.

He’s even found time to star in Cosmic Crusaders, an animated web series that follows Stan Lee helping Aliens to access their superpowers on earth.

“Let’s say I’m as busy as I’ve ever been. I love creating new characters, writing them the way some men love to play golf. I’d go crazy on a golf course, but give me a pencil and a piece of paper and let me play, and I’m a happy man,” Lee said.

Lee’s recent work also includes a book trilogy, The Zodiac Legacy, which follows a Chinese-American’s adventures in Hong Kong and a film project to create a Chinese female super heroine.

“The fact that China is such an old, old civilization, way before us, and all of the exciting, mysterious things that are a part of their past. So, I’m fascinated by the Chinese.”

Earlier this year, it was announced that Lee had made his last appearance at New York’s Comic-Con, but for the big one in San Diego, Lee appears to be caught in a Spiderman-like web.

“Every year, I say this will be the last one. But there is always somebody at a Comic-con some year who is a friend of mine and is working on a project. So, every year I find myself coming here because I wanna do someone a favor, but while I’m here I might as well do everything I can. And I feel like an idiot, I should be home relaxing, but I guess deep down, deep down, I probably love it.”

The fans love it even more, as they’re willing to wait hours for a fleeting moment with comic book royalty.
