Cubans reflect on life, legacy of Castro on his 90th birthday

The birthday celebrations for the retired leader of Cuba, Fidel Castro began on Friday night with a free concert beside Havana’s seafront Malecon.

Then just before midnight, the music and dancing stopped, with a countdown to the moment Cuba’s former leader Fidel Castro turned 90 years-old.

CCTV America’s Michael Voss reports.

A giant screen showed highlights of Castro’s life. Few of the attendees were born when he created Cuba’s socialist revolution.

While many are hoping for change, Fidel Castro remains El Comandante, the commander-in-chief.

The only thing missing is the birthday man. So far, they have released no new photos or videos of Fidel Castro and he is not expected to make any public appearances.

He was last seen in public at the Communist Party Congress in April, looking old and frail but mentally alert and bringing tears to the eyes of some as he acknowledged that time for him was running out.
