California wildfires, Louisiana floods impact thousands

Wildfires have leveled nearly 200 homes and businesses on the U.S. West coast, while floods have pushed families from more than 40,000 homes in the Southern U.S.

CCTV America’s Jessica Stone reports.

In California, authorities have now arrested a 40-year-old man for arson. He is suspected of starting other fires as well. Meanwhile, more than one thousand firefighters have finally contained the 10-day old wildfire.

Two days after more than 61 centimeters (24 inches) of rain fell on Louisiana — search and rescue teams are looking for survivors. More than 20-thousand people have been rescued.

But at least 10 deaths have been connected to this record flooding.

Authorities are now focused on getting the lights back on at some 34000 homes and businesses.

As the rain waters recede, rescue workers are mindful that swelling rivers can still threaten these communities too.
