Berlin's IFA trade show displays newest gadgets 2

In this year’s IFA trade show, new products are creating buzzes whereas the idea of linking everything in the home together are still afar.

CCTV’s Guy Henderson reports from Berlin.

There’s always a wow factor at IFA. This year, it’s the LG OLED Tunnel.

Besides, large or small, the good old television still creates a buzz at one of the world’s leading consumer electronics and home appliances trade show.

This year’s event may be slightly lower key on new products, but there’s no shortage of big players linking what’s already out there together. “MyKi” – a prototype kitchen assistant that could one day help you set the stove to the right temperature — while warning you your refrigerator is nearly out of eggs.

However, the idea that linking everything in the home together still seems a long way off.

“As long as everyone is going on their own platforms, as long as they have a single strategy that is not linked to other strategies – this challenge will be very, very difficult. And we are a little bit worried actually that this might fade as long as they do not speak with each other,” Jgen Boyny said.

The sector, it seems, is pushing for that breakthrough moment, and until then, there still are plenty of distractions.
