Improving life for Mexican kids growing up in prison

Americas Now

“Game Changer” Saskia Nino de Rivera.

In Mexico, there are currently hundreds of children who are born and raised in the prison system. They live with their mothers in confinement and even sleep in their cells.

This week on “Americas Now,” we introduce you to a woman trying to stimulate their minds and brighten their lives. Meet Game Changer Saskia Nino de Rivera.

For the past three years, Saskia’s organization in Mexico, called Reinserta, has been working with these children and their mothers to help improve their living conditions and prepare them for a better future.

Reinserta is working on a proposal to lessen the amount of time children spend in the prison system from 6 years to 3 years. This would help integrate them into society earlier and better prepare them for the future.
