Air travel in North America is about to get a major boost.

An expanded, new aviation agreement between Mexico and the United States is expected to greatly increase the number of flights for travelers and cargo between the U.S. and Mexico.

CCTV America’s Franc Contreras reports from Mexico City.

It’s being hailed as a new chapter in North American aviation history.

Authorities in both the U.S. and Mexico said the number of flight options between the two countries is about to increase like never before.

Under a new air transport agreement, Mexican and U.S. airline companies are already making plans to dramatically expand the number of flights and routes between the two nations for business and travel.

Under the bilateral aviation agreement, cargo and passenger flights will increase. Mexican airliners alone have already requested 100 new routes into the United States.

U.S. airlines are now allowed to increase the number of flights they already make to Mexico’s most well-known beach resorts. And that’s expected to boost Mexico’s entire tourism sector.

Airports in Mexico’s beach locations are already the most heavily used for international flights. But the agreement will not affect the number of flights to Mexico City’s already saturated Benito Juarez International Airport.
