Tensions on the rise between Lesvos residents and refugees

With Hungary limiting migration and building border fences, a logjam of migrants has backed up on all the Greek islands.

CCTV’s Filio Kontrafouri sent this report from Lesvos, where tensions between refugees and their hosts couldn’t be higher.

The Moria camp has been overflowing with refugees. The island’s other camp is in much better shape, though there’s not enough room either.

Inside the camp, fighting breaks out almost daily. Sometimes the violence spills outside, angering the islanders.

Lesvos has been demanding an immediate transfer of refugees to mainland Greece. But with an average of 100 new arrivals on Greek islands every day, that would only relieve the problem temporarily.
