Chinese tech company LeEco expands into North America

Chinese technology company LeEco is expanding its reach into North America with cellphones and TV’s. It’s already China’s largest online streaming content provider, but has plans for much more as they held an event in San Francisco.

CCTV America’s Mark Niu has the details.

An ambitious strategy to break into the U.S market. LeEco unveiled its new smartphone the Le Pro 3 – with high- end specs like 33 hour talk-time battery life and multi-task viewing – but for $400.

It also announced the UMax 85 – It’s 85-inch 4K-resoultion smart television for $5,000.

LeEco said both prices are half that of competitors.

The strategy is to bring U.S. consumers into their ecosystem – which includes U.S. and international content – and even new movie projects like The Great Wall, directed by filmmaker Zhang Yimou and starring U.S. actor Matt Damon.

But LeEco did not mention any U.S. carrier deals, instead, their products will be sold through their LeMall online store, which offers discounts for new customers.

But there are many more parts to the LeEco ecosystem. The company also introduced a VR headset called the Explore and what it calls a Superbike. This concept electric bike is billed as having hydraulic brakes, an alarm, fingerprint scanner, side laser system and even an intercom system.
