It was 11 at night on Monday, when heavily-armed militants wearing suicide vests stormed the police academy in Quetta in Pakistan’s south-western Balochistan province.

CCTV’s Danial Khan reports.

At least 60 people were killed as a result and over a hundred injured, in one of the deadliest militant attacks this year.

Reportedly, the militant Islamic State group has also claimed responsibility for the attack.

Balochistan is an important region for China’s $46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project, and experts believe that neighboring countries that are concerned with the ever-growing cooperation between China and Pakistan may perhaps be behind such attacks to sabotage the project.

Experts said, security problems have slowed down CPEC in the past with numerous attacks in Balochistan province, but both China and Pakistan are confident that the project will see its conclusion in the estimated time as the Pakistani military is in control of the security of the project, and will deal with any external threat, befittingly.
