The threat of a Donald Trump presidency in the U.S. has prompted an Afghan-American woman to create a political action committee. It aims to mobilize the Muslim vote against Donald Trump.

Criminal defense attorney Mirriam Seddiq said she never thought she’d become a political activist.

But Donald Trump’s 2015 proposal to ban Muslims from entering the U.S. prompted her to create American Muslim Women political action committee.

Its immediate goal is setting Muslim Americans to vote in this November’s presidential election.

In the past two elections, Mirriam’s home state of Virginia has voted Democratic.

She wants that trend to continue. Her PAC’s voter registration drive is getting out the vote for Hillary Clinton.

In 2014, the Muslim population made up just under one percent of America’s population, and it’s growing.

The latest figures from the Washington DC-based Pew Research Center estimates that around 3.3 million Muslims are now living in the United States. The center’s data also shows the majority of American Muslims lean Democratic.
