Dance music inspired by football in Colombia

Americas Now

Soccer, or football, as it is known to fans around the globe, has been around since medieval times. It is considered the “king” of sports and it is perhaps the most popular one. Europeans introduced it to Latin America in the 1800’s and since then it has played a major role in its culture.

This week “Americas Now” features an entrepreneur born in the Caribbean city of Santa Marta in Colombia. He grew up in Pescaito, a symbolic neighborhood known for being a “factory of footballers.” He is also a member of the symbolic Valderrama family – a Caribbean clan known for having represented Colombia in many tournaments, including the World Cup.

Chicho Valderrama takes us on tour of his neighborhood while he shares the events that led him on a career from football to music.
