The Heat: South Africa's education protests

Since September student demonstrations have brought chaos to university campuses across South Africa.

At that time, the government announced universities could determine their own tuition increases for 2017, as much as eight percent.

Last year, South African President Jacob Zuma heeded to the backlash of student protests and cancelled tuition hikes.

But this time, student groups remain at an impasse with the government for a solution.

For more on the crisis in South Africa, CCTV’s Angelo Coppola reports from Johannesburg.

To explain the impact the protests have had in South Africa:

  • Adam Habib, the vice-chancellor and principal at The University of Witwatersrand.
