Though it may not be immediately obvious to the naked eye, November 13th and 14th welcome a unique event in night skies across the world. The SUPERMOON – and this one is special.

A supermoon occurs when a full moon makes its closest pass to Earth in its orbit. During a supermoon, the moon can appear up to 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter. It is a normal phenomena that occurs at least a couple of times every year.

However, according to NASA, this month’s is especially ‘super’ for two reasons: it is the only supermoon this year to be completely full, and it is the closest moon to Earth since 1948 – when a gallon of gas cost just 16 cents. The moon won’t be this super again until 2034!

Here are some photos of the November supermoon taken around the world.
