When Barack Obama was elected President of the United States in 2008, his victory was celebrated across Africa.

With his personal connection to Kenya, many on the continent considered Obama one of their own. During his administration, Mister Obama made four trips to Sub-Saharan Africa, visiting six countries.

He emphasized trade instead of aid, launching two programs, the Young African Leaders Initiative and Power Africa.
