Fans geek out at Sao Paulo’s Comic Con Experience

Brazilian geeks are out and proud during Sao Paulo’s Comic Con Experience. It’s the country’s biggest event of comics and pop culture and many fan’s moment to meet friends and big stars, see and buy what is new in the market and show off their creativity and skills in recreate their favorite characters.

CCTV America’s Paulo Cabral reports.

“The geek community is very strong, specially in times of hardship, that’s when we really need to come together, like being in a convention. It’s a safe space, where you can be free, you can be yourself and just go crazy. It’s awesome,” Chinese-American cosplayer Yaya Han said.

The comics and pop culture industry is dominated by huge companies and brands that trade worldwide. But some of Brazil’s biggest homegrown companies are also here fighting for space.

Even with an economic crisis in the country, Comic Con doesn’t appear to be impacted with its colorful crowds and long lines of buyers. It may be a world of fantasy but a very profitable one.
