Vladimir Putin press conferenceRussian President Vladimir Putin gives 4-hour press conference

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s annual end-of-year press conference lasted almost four hours.

He answered questions, in front of hundreds of journalists, on both domestic and international issues.

He dismissed accusations that Russia interfered in the recent American elections, and he downplayed talk of a possible new nuclear arms race between the U.S. and Russia.

Putin took time to underline Russia’s military strength and also answered questions about other big international news stories including the war in Syria and the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey.

To go into the details and importance of Putin’s 2016 speech and the future of Russia’s relations:

  • Anton Fedyashin, professor at American University and a specialist in Russian and European history
  • Alexander Nekrassov, a political commentator and former Kremlin adviser
  • Brian Becker, the author of “Imperialism in the 21st Century” and executive director of the Answer Coalition
