Chinese drone makers open outlets in US

Chinese firm DJI, the world’s leading civilian drone-maker, is expanding into the U.S., opening 10 drone stores. They’re modeled on existing retail outlets in Asia.

CGTN’s Hendrik Sybrandy reports.

DJI, based in Shenzhen, China, has achieved big success by selling drones mostly online. Now, it’s opened up a handful of brick and mortar stores in the U.S., including this one near Denver, Colorado.

DJI Colorado’s Kerry Garrison said as drones become more sophisticated in terms of cameras, flight profiles and payload capacities, more and more buyers are looking for hands-on help and advice.

One cool feature of the store is the cage where customers are able to demo all their products there, safely.

DJI products are already available in various electronics stores in the U.S. The company decided authorized retail outlets would expand the number of places where customers could go.

Colorado, where the scenery and local industries offer a wide range of drone uses, was a logical landing spot for DJI.

DJI’s Adam Lisberg said more stores are on the horizon. Drone enthusiasts believe these vehicles are the future. Where, interestingly, a very personal touch may be needed to guide consumers.
