Greece unable to provide for those seeking for those seeking asylum

Many refugees from the fighting in Syria try to go to Europe, a journey that often takes them to Greece. But their hardships don’t end there.

More than 98 percent of Syrians who apply for asylum in Greece receive refugee status. Once that happens, they have nearly the same rights as Greeks.

In a briefcase, 70-year-old Hussein keeps everything he has: His documents from Syria, his medical records, and the paper that officially recognizes him as a refugee in Greece.

When he got it, he thought his problems would be over, but they were just beginning.
