An award-winning food truck in DC serves up a “taste” of Peru

Americas Now

Brothers Giuseppe and Mario Lanzone were born and raised along the coast of Peru. Growing up with the ocean as their playground, the brothers, of Italian descent, spent their childhood fishing, sailing, and scuba diving.

They mastered the waters of the Pacific Ocean in their hometown, La Punta, located in the outskirts of Lima. The Lanzone duo would catch so much fish that their father built a “floating restaurant” in one of their boats. They cooked in the middle of the ocean – literally. Years later the brothers conquered other waters. Giuseppe became a rower and paddled his way to two Olympics – Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012. Mario became a captain and spent eight summers navigating the Mediterranean.

In 2013 the brothers reunited and decided to bring to Washington what they missed the most from their home nation – food. They started the “Peruvian Brothers” food truck taking on hundreds of others in Washington, a city known for hosting international cuisine. They put so much love and effort into their restaurant on wheels, that it quickly satisfied many cosmopolitan palates, and in 2015 they took home the award for “Best Food Truck”.
