Trump says he could issue new executive order on travel ban next week

Immigration authorities launched a new wave of raids across the U.S. while President Trump reveals he could issue a new travel ban as early as next week.

CGTN’s Sean Callebs reports.

In at least a half a dozen states, Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents or ICE are taking illegal aliens into custody.

Critics alleged that the raids were netting more than just repeated felons and targeting citizens who have longed lived in the U.S., like Guadalupe Garcia who was deported to Mexico after being in the United States 20 years.

“I have been doing this all for my children, for them to have a better future and for their dreams not to die,” Garcia said.

The new director of Homeland Security John Kelly said authorities are just doing their job.

“If there are laws on the books that are bad laws, then change them. But people like me, CVP, ICE, local law enforcement, we have no alternative but to enforce the laws. We can’t ignore the laws,” Kelly said.

Organizations like the Hispanic Congressional Caucus in Washington, D.C. is attempting to discuss the issue with immigration authorities.

Texas representative Joaquin Castro was also asking ICE to clarify if Garcia is “dangerous” or “violent.”

Polling shows only half of Americans support immigration ban while others feel it deals a crushing blow to civil liberties.

Donald Trump’s first effort to ban immigrants from seven Middle Eastern nations caused chaos in airports nationwide. Despite setbacks in court, he is making it clear that the administration will continue the fight for the ban. He could pursue legal channels through the court system or file new executive orders on travel ban as early as Monday.
