US troops sent to Eastern Europe to boost NATO defenses

More than 35,000 U.S. troops have deployed to Romania in recent weeks to boost NATO defenses in the region.

NATO said it’s to reassure its European allies, in the face of the alleged threat from Russia.

CGTN’s Aljosa Milenkovic reports from Bucharest.

The U.S. and NATO are saying that there is a real Russian threat to the East European countries like Baltic States, Romania, Bulgaria and Poland. That’s why the US troops are sent to support Eastern European partners which has been widely welcomed in Romania.

“We have the popular support, public space support, media, and political support. And we don’t have any party that would argue or would have a question mark or discussing it in any way that choice,” Iulian Chifu, director center for conflicts prevention, Romania said.

And after the last week’s flyby incidents in the Black Sea and big NATO fleet maneuvers there, one thing is for sure. Russia – NATO tensions are on the rise.
