In Uruguay, this Carnival party lasts for 40 days

Americas Now

Celebrated every year in many Latin America countries, carnival is a festival that has roots in Catholicism. Before Holy Week, traditionally a time for fasting and spiritual introspection, people take to the streets for dancing and debauchery prior to the solemnity that will follow.

Most countries that celebrate carnival do so for one week. But in Uruguay, the party lasts for over a month.

Check out these images from Montevideo, where carnival is the longest one on the planet.
