Border Patrol agents secure busiest land port in the US

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection office said the crossing —from Mexico —into the U.S. is the busiest land port in the nation. Officers on the ‘front lines’ make every effort to keep terrorists, weapons, drugs and illegal immigrants out of the United States.

CGTN’s Sean Callebs reports.

“For the most part, our traveling public both commercial and private are legitimate travelers we got to find that one individual, that one organization trying to infiltrate with those legitimate travelers — it’s very hard,” U.S. Customs and border protection officer Tater Ortiz said.

The U.S. Borders have been porous for years — according to U.S. President Donald Trump — allowing drugs, and other ills to “pour” across the border. He again touted his plan for change.

The Rio Grande river is a natural barrier that separates Mexico and the U.S. But Trump has nevertheless vowed to build a ‘great, great wall” along America’s Southern border.

Officials in Laredo, Texas said it’s a bad idea for a host of reasons, namely a waste of money. They also said a wall would send the wrong message.

Each year $168 billion in goods flows across the border into the United States.
