House Intel Committee continues investigation on Trump-Russia links

Democrats are calling for independent investigations because they fear Republicans are trying to cover up the truth. But Republicans are resisting because they said Democrats are trying to gain a political edge by smearing the Trump administration.

Republicans said there is currently no evidence to support the charge that supporters of Donald Trump colluded with Russia during the presidential campaign or the transition. But the Democrats’ leader in the House is not so sure.

“What are they afraid of? The truth, every step of the way,” Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the minority leader from U.S. House of Representatives said.

The FBI has been investigating allegations of Russian interference in the elections for months and has collected intelligence about the nature of any communications with the Russians. But now, two new investigations have been initiated within the intelligence committees of both the House and Senate.

FBI Director James Comey has been reluctant to provide information to the House Intelligence Committee during an initial closed door meeting.

Some Democrats want an independent investigator to be appointed at the Department of Justice and a new law to authorize an independent legal counsel to investigate in Congress.
