US airline companies roll out "Basic Economy" flight options

Air travelers could soon find flying in the U.S. a lot cheaper. A new class of travel is being rolled out on American Airlines.

CGTN’s Phil Lavelle explains from Los Angeles.

When it comes to tickets, there’ll be more choice, less cost. And it’s all has to do with a new class: Basic economy.

United and Delta offer it and American Airlines also recently joined the club.

There are no advance seat assignments, no upgrades, no changing travel plans, no standby for other flights. Basic means basic. Although the laws of psychology suggest we may end up paying more anyway when it comes to booking.
