Mexico is preparing for an influx of deportees from the U.S. It’s in the wake of president Trump’s tough immigration stance.

Now some Mexican schools are taking extraordinary measures– to help deported students re-integrate.

Mexico’s Ibero-American University launched a program that will give full scholarships to 1500 deported students. The Ibero-American University scholarship program is set to start in the fall.

“Once we saw the anti-immigration stance of the new government of the United States, we started our campaign,” Jorge Meza, Coordinator of Student Affairs, Ibero-American University said.

Although President Donald Trump has started to implement tougher immigration measures in the U.S., he has yet to approve the deportation of undocumented students.

Politicians and universities in Mexico are preparing for the possibility of thousands of students arriving in Mexico.

Mexican Congressional leaders are working on a law that will give deported students the same rights of Mexican citizens and allow them to attend public school for free.

Local nonprofit organizations have started the process of coordinating with U.S. schools to help streamline the process of transfers and provide financial assistance. But there are challenges.

Already admission officials have received hundreds of applications. A telling sign that Mexico’s schools may soon be swamped with deported students in the coming years.
