Every three years, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) conducts an assessment of education systems worldwide by testing the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students in science, reading and mathematics. There are also sections in collaborative problem solving and financial literacy.

In all, 72 countries are evaluated, with 540,000 students taking the two-hour test.

China ranks near the top of the list. The United States is barely in the top 30.
