Two world leaders sharing a stage, a walk, and after two days of talks—a friendship.

CGTN’s Sean Callebs reports on the Xi-Trump Summit.

“We have been talking for a long time, through our communications we’ve reached a lot of agreements – more importantly we got to know each other better and have built a trust, friendship and a work partnership,” Chinese President Xi Jinping said.

The stated goal was finding a positive, productive way forward.

“We look forward to being together many times in the future and I believe lots of very bad potential problems will now go away. So I just want to think President Xi for being with us,” President Donald Trump said.

“We will work toward promoting this friendly relationship which will benefit China, the U.S., and their peoples. We will also do our part in promoting peace and global stability,” President Xi added.

It’s been two days of smiles, and positive projections for the future.

A sharp contrast to the “difficult” talks Trump predicted last week. There were no joint agreements or major deals publicly approved, just promises to foster more trade and add jobs in China and the U.S.

But on some of the most contentious issues. Trump has urged China to work with the United States on its frosty and tense relationship with DPRK leader, Kim Jong Un.

China has repeatedly expressed its desire to halt the DPRK’s nuclear program, but Beijing also said Pyongyang and Washington have to sit down and talk – with the ROK – to settle their differences.
