Students at a school near President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort got quite the treat. The Chinese and American first ladies stopped by to say hello.

CGTN’s Han Peng reports.

For security reasons, students at Bak Middle School of the Arts were not told who their audience would be until Madame Peng and Mrs. Trump showed up.

“We were sitting and waiting. Every time the door opened, we were a little nervous. Is she here yet? And finally when she came in, we were all just so shocked,” said 12-year-old Rachel Hobbs.

Together with dozens of her classmates, Rachel performed the song “Astonishing” in front of the two First Ladies.

It’s a song from “Little Women”, with a theme of female empowerment.

This timeout from the summit’s great power politics delighted American schoolchildren and their parents.

The reason the First Ladies chose the school is because of its strong emphasis on arts, one of the interests of the famous Chinese singer Madame Peng.

In 2014, Madame Peng invited former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama to China.
Chinese officials say developing friendship between Madame Peng and Mrs. Trump is an important goal, as part of the “First Ladies’ Diplomacy.”
