US sends carrier-led strike force to Korean Peninsula as tensions rise

World Today

The United States is sending an aircraft carrier-led strike group back to waters off the Korean peninsula.

U.S. officials have also suggested a preemptive strike on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is an option.

All this comes amid speculation that the DPRK may conduct another nuclear test or long-range rocket launch.

The DPRK has voiced its displeasure with Washington’s strategy, and Pyongyang continues to defy U.N. sanctions that ban the country from testing ballistic missile technology. With each test, the country’s weapons capabilities become an increasing threat.

The U.S. Trump administration’s missile strike on Syria, as well as, the White House’s recent comments suggesting a preemptive strike on the DPRK as an option, have made many in the region nervous.
