Mexican candy shop turns tourist stop with unique variety of tequila

Latin America

A small candy shop in Mexico has become quite popular, but it’s not because of the sweets it’s selling. At this shop, you can get a treat and something strong to drink.

The store has sold more than 1,800 bottles of tequila, and was featured in the 2014 Guinness Book of World Records. It’s become a must-see tourist stop.

For Luis Del Hoyo, getting creative with his candy shop led to an overwhelming demand for tequila that led to a world record title. His store is on the outskirts of Guadalajara, and received global attention after holding the 2014 Guinness World Record for having the most varieties of commercially-sold tequila.

Del Hoya’s inventory is like no other, and his store has become a mainstay on the local tourism circuit with people from all over the world coming to marvel at his tequilas.

They tequila’s sold at the store come in all types of shapes and sizes.

Along with the variety of bottles, the offbeat brand names draw a lot of attention. One example is, “The Divorce and the Thousand Lovers” tequila, a joking reminder of what can happen when you drink too much tequila.

The recognition has made Del Hoyo happy and satisfied, but what really motivates him beyond the world-record status is his ability to supply tequilas that no one else can.
