Recent developments have increased international concern for the Korean Peninsula. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea celebrates two major anniversaries this month.

The DPRK will celebrate the birth of the founder, as well as the 85th anniversary of the Korean People’s Army. Meanwhile, the U.S. has sent a carrier task force to waters in the area.

Every day, there seems to be more and more talk about the possibility of war on the Korean peninsula.

People in Seoul are well known for ignoring the tensions between the two sides of the Korean peninsula, technically still at war. They still do occasionally clash, leading to the sinking of ships, cross-border artillery fire and casualties.

Seoul has also also been playing down suggestions that the U.S. could launch a preemptive strike on the north.

It appears most South Koreans are dealing with the current crisis the way they have dealt with many crises since a ceasefire was declared in the early 1950s. That is by largely ignoring it.
