The DPRK has launched a missile early morning on Sunday from its east coast, which is believed to have failed, Yonhap news agency cited the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

It remains unclear what type of projectile has been launched.

The DPRK “attempted to test an unidentified type of missile from Sinpo area in the South Hamkyong Province this morning, but we suspect the launch has failed,” said the ROK Defense Ministry in a statement.

The new test comes a day after Pyongyang held a massive military parade to mark the 105th birthday of Kim Il Sung, the founding father of the country and grandfather of current leader Kim Jong Un, against a backdrop of mounting tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
