The Heat: China leads global fight against climate change

The Heat

Solar panels and wind turbines dot the hills in Hubei Province, China.

China has been thrust into a leadership role in the global fight against climate change as the U.S. leadership shifts away from the Paris climate accords.

China has taken its own climate goals seriously – it’s now the leader in renewable energy and has announced a decline in coal consumption for the third year in a row.

CGTN’s Zou Yun reports on work needs to be done in this fight.

To discuss China’s role in fighting climate change:

  • Ranping Song, developing country climate program manager at the World Resources Institute.
  • David Livingston, an associate fellow with the energy and climate program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
  • Kari Fulton, a environmental justice consultant and organizer with EmpowerDC.
