Syrian refugee shares affect of Trump’s travel ban on family

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed two Executive Orders aimed at keeping citizens of certain majority Muslim countries from entering the United States.

Before legal challenges put both on hold, the uncertainty caused chaos at airports and left many families in limbo.

It’s been nearly three years since Mohammad Sayadi had seen his family. At one point, the 25-year-old Syrian refugee was unsure when he’d see them again.

After passing a lengthy screening test in Jordan and told they had visas and flights to the U.S., his family was suddenly grounded. Their plans were stalled by U.S. President Donald Trump’s Executive Order suspending America’s refugee resettlement program.

Trump insisted the ban was necessary to keep America safe. But following a wave of protests across the country, a U.S. federal judge issued an injunction against the President’s Executive Order – allowing an opportunity for refugees to enter the country. An updated version of the travel ban was also blocked by a federal judge.

The Sayadi family wants to put the ordeal behind them and focus on adjusting to a new life in their new home.
