Mandarin language competition connects American children with Chinese culture

Teams of school-aged children in the U.S. hit the stage to showcase their best Mandarin language skills.

The Chinese Bridge Language Competition helps highlight and celebrate Chinese language competence while connecting American and Chinese cultures.  

One of the most famous American kids learning Chinese right now is U.S. President Donald Trump’s granddaughter. The five-year-old displayed her mastery of the Chinese language during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Trump’s Florida resort in April.

CGTN’s Roee Ruttenberg visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Maryland to check out the competition.
