Nvidia pushing products into VR, self-driving cars

Nvidia has long been a hardware player in the computer graphics and gaming industry.

But it’s evolved into a major player into seemingly every cutting edge field, such as autonomous driving. It’s even built its own self-driving car called BB8, which was unveiled earlier this year.

CGTN’s Mark Niu reports.

“We’re investing in the software that drives self-driving cars, as well as the hardware that is inside the car as well as in the future a cloud component, so they’ll all talk to each other. We’re also looking at artificial intelligence inside the car, cameras can look at you and understand if you are getting sleepy or distracted by something, and it can tell the car to alert you or watch what you are doing,” Greg Estes, Nvidia’s vice president of Developer Programs said.

Nvidia’s work in Artificial Intelligence is the driving force behind its autonomous driving technology and at least half of the learning sessions happening at GTC.

“Analysts have estimated that almost 80 percent of all the applications will have an AI component within just two years. So Nvidia is highly invested in it. It is our singular focus. You see it in self-driving cars, you see it in robotics, you see it in healthcare,” Estes said.

Beijing-based TPCAST recently launched in China. The wireless VR Kit includes a transmitter, receiver, and battery. TPCAST’s kit even allows four to six people to use VR headset’s wirelessly together.

By partnering with Nvidia, TPCAST expects to bring the technology to the U-S market within the next few months.
