American families worried changes to Obamacare could limit medical care

Insight

Since 2010, the Affordable Care Act has helped millions of Americans gain health insurance.  The Trump administration is looking to repeal and replace the legislation championed by former President Barack Obama, a move that worries some Americans.

They’re concerned changes to the law would result in a loss of some benefits or access to care.

CGTN’s Andrea Arenas introduces us to one family, who says that could mean the difference between life or death.

The Republicans in the U.S. Congress have a new plan called the American Health Care Act- which still needs approval. They favor legislation that will give states more flexibility, especially when it comes to coverage of pre-existing conditions.

Democrats have said the Republican’s new plan will cut subsidies for low-income Americans and only helps the rich.

According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, the American Health Care Act would result in a tax cut of at least $144 billion to those making more than $1 million a year, over the next decade.

The CBO also saidthat if the American Health Care Act is implemented, as many as 24 million Americans could lose coverage within the next decade.
