Urban Voice Melissa Torres masters the art and sport of horse ballet

Americas Now

La Charreria is a Mexican horse-riding competition that’s often referred to as an art, blending skill, strength and grace with colorful costumes and festive music.

The sport is better known for its riding contests for men, but it also includes female riders who compete in the “Escaramuza,” a fast, choreographed horse ballet made up of precise, synchronized movements, and executed by women who ride exclusively sidesaddle.

Meet Urban Voice Melissa Torres, the queen of the art form.
