President Trump returns from Europe with White House embroiled in scandal

Donald Trump has resumed public duties here in the U.S. after returning from his first presidential trip abroad.

He’s flown back to mounting questions about his team’s alleged ties with Russia.

CGTN’s Owen Fairclough reports.

President Trump made his first public appearance, after returning from his maiden foreign trip, by honoring fallen soldiers on Memorial Day. However, the president is being pulled quickly back into a scandal about his team’s relations with Russia that’s moving closer to him.

Reports suggest Trump’s son in law and Senior Adviser, Jared Kushner, had at least three undisclosed contacts with Russian officials before Trump took office.

Trump denounced the reports as “fake news” before issuing a statement backing Kushner.

Trump’s first National Security Adviser Michael Flynn lost his job for lying about undisclosed business relations with Russian officials.

The former head of the CIA said he remains troubled by the Russia connections.

“My dashboard warning light was clearly on and I think that was the case with all of us in the intelligence community-very concerned about the nature of these approaches to the Russians,” James Clapper, a former CIA Director said.

The allegations that the Kremlin tried to swing the U.S. presidential election in Trump’s favor were being investigated by FBI Director James Comey until Trump fired him.

Comey is due to testify before lawmakers who said the public are entitled to hear his side of the story.
