It doesn’t take more than a few notes for most people to recognize one of the most memorable tango songs ever written. It’s called La Cumparsita, and all around the world, celebrations have been taking place to commemorate its 100th year.
The tune’s composer, Gerardo Matos Rodriguez of Uruguay, wrote it as a teenager, sold it, and then spent much of his life trying to win back the rights to the song, after it became world-renowned.
