A Chinese delegation is in New York City for a forum on China-U.S. trade.

The event is focused on Beijing’s Belt-and-Road Initiative, along with a trade plan made with Washington.

CGTN’s John Terrett reports in New York.

The Asia Society in Manhattan hosted members of the business and diplomatic community, giving them a chance to learn more about the BRI and also the 100-Day Plan worked out by President’s Xi and Trump in Florida last April.

There were a series of keynote speakers, including the 28th Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd – who runs the Policy Institute at the Asia Society now.

One of the forum’s stars was C.H. Tung, the first chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Tung said China and the U.S. are compatible in many ways, not just economically. He added that the two have worked closely together during the 2008 global financial meltdown, cooperated over climate change and in relief services for West Africa during the 2016 Ebola crisis. He said the two will work closely again.

China’s ambassador to the United States spelled out how the 100-day plan offers a vision for future China and U.S. relations.

The forum also discussed a new report by China designed to push back at what Beijing sees as some of the myths in America about the trade deficit between the two nations.
