A Saudi woman was arrested, and then reportedly released, after a video went viral of her walking in public wearing a short skirt and a cropped top.

The clip, posted to popular Snapchat user “Khulood,” has angered many in the conservative Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but has also sparked outrage that a woman would be jailed because of her clothing.

The General Presidency of the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vices, also known as the Saudi religious police, tweeted about the incident.

“Spokesmen for the Committee for the promotion of Virtue in Riyadh: The executives monitored a video showing a girl in inappropriate clothing, and we have co-ordinated with the appropriate parties ”

The woman reportedly told investigators that the videos were published on social media without her knowledge.

In the video, the woman was walking through an ancient site in the city of Ushayqir—about 95 miles from the Saudi capital of Riyadh.
