The Heat

Tensions between Israel and Palestinians have been rising since July 14 when Israel installed metal detectors at the entrance to the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem after three Israeli Arab gunmen killed two Israeli policemen.

The compound, revered by Jews as the Temple Mount, is the third holiest site in Islam and the holiest site for Jews.

Palestinians took to the streets to protest the security measures while a defiant Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced the freezing of communication with Israel until the situation is resolved.
